Hello,

Friend gave me an Essex Gunworks SXS 12ga sidelock.
Condition is poor, very rusted and would not open.
The forearm is not original and held on with a screw.
The forearm used to be a latch type (Deely maybe ?)
Stock is missing, trugger guard missing.

Toplever is not seized, so I looked more closely, the trigger plate was bent and the auto safety was bound as a result.
Auto safety is set when the underlug is withdrawn by the toplever through a link which was bound by the bent trigger plate.

Long story short, a little polishing and lube, straightening and she now opens and cocks, and fires and safety works.
The sidelock have cocking indicators.

My research yeilds little or no information about this gun or maker. I would like to put a stock on it and it may become a wall hanger unless I can find replacement parts.

The questions are :
Is this model and make the same as another brand ? ie Meridian, Sears etc.
Is there a stock and forearm that is interchangeable or very close that can be made to work ?
Where can I get hard parts ? (Trigger guard, forearm latch, cocking plunger )

Thanks

Essex was a trade name of Crescent. It has nothing to do with Meriden Firearms, Co of Sears. It is not worth repairing, except perhaps as a family heirloom.
