I haven't seen any discussion about TR's Fox, which will be auctioned by Julia's in Oct. Anyone want to venture a guess on the hammer price? Tons of good photos of the gun if you click on the first photo. TR's Fox at Julia's

Thanks for the post. Question? How can the gun look like new and the case look like it was drug behind the wagon clear across Africa? One or the other is not in original condition. Randy

RMC: If the sun comes up behind clouds is it still not the sun? I trust that TR's Fox is still TR's Fox... regardless of the case.

The case protected the gun. You should see my 100 year old tool chest with the original tools. The box takes all the wear and tear and abuse same as a good gun case should.

I had the pleasure of holding this gun and bringing it to my shoulder many years ago when the gun was owned by Tom Kidd. It was an unforgettable experience. Combine that with a ride in Tom's Fox Automobile and it was quite a day! The gun,as I recall, shows careful use and I do not believe it was ever refinished.

Beautiful gun and I’m sure it will bring in a bundle of money. To Africa and back and still in almost pristine condition, I don’t think it was used very much. Now the H&H rifle, that’s the gun I would like to see because that rifle saw some serious, as in life threatening, situations and some serious shooting.

In that the gun was made in 1909, and President Roosevelt died in January 1919, the gun very likely saw no more then ten years of use and has been in collections ever since. The trip to Africa and the trip to South America undoubtably took their toll on the case.

It didn't stay in the family? His son Kermit was also a pretty serious hunter, if I recall correctly.
