Hey Fellas,

I am new to the forum and hope that you can help me. I was searching the web trying to find information about Stoeger Side Mounts and this forum came up showing some very old side mounts similar to the one I am looking to find.

I purchased a FN Browning Model 1900 and when I received it, it had soldered to the left receiver what I am told is part of a Stoeger Side Mount. I am trying to find the rest of the mount which I guess you would call the scope rings attatchment. I have provided a link where you can see pictures of the FN and an old picture showing the Stoeger Side Mount. http://thegreatmodel8.remingtonsociety.c...c8f36490d38d953

If any of you can help me with my search for the missing piece, I would be indebted to you. You can email me at jack1653@att.net or post a reply here.

Respectfully,

jack1653

Jack. That is a very interesting rifle. Very interesting. I have never seen an FN model, but it is basically the same as a Remington M8, and later, an 81. Yours has a ribbed barrel, I have never seen a Remington with such a rib. As far as the mount, I think you have good info and pictures on the Stoeger mount, where you can find one is a real guess. It would be expensive, but you could have a Griffin and Howe mount and rings made up an fitted to the rifle. The mount and rings work pretty much the same as the Stoeger. The scope must be mounted off to the side of the left side of the rifle, as the rifle ejects straight up. Years ago I have mounted Weaver side mounts to this rifle, but it is a poor setup and I would not suggest it.

Jack, If you aren't able to find the right Stoeger bracket and rings, possibly you could have a bracket made to fit the existing base on your rifle, that uses G&H rings, which are available. Or Jeager rings. I think G&H uses the term "bracket", may be wrong of course. Again, a fine rifle.

Jack,

Nice rifle indeed. The scope mount was sold by Stoeger but was made by Jaeger in Germany. They were sold by both Stoeger and Jaeger's son Paul in Philadelphia.

They are not interchangeable and it took me several years to find one for my Jaeger. The good news is I picked up a couple that do not fit my base. I have no idea if they will fit yours or not but one might.

Can you send me the width of the dovetail and the length of the mount from the end to the notch and I'll check what I have.

PS, there was one of these with a scope a few weeks ago on ebay, I don't know if it sold or not.

You can find information on these on the rifle side at

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I have been away from the computer so I missed seeing the posting. I will try and get the measurements tomorrow and get them off to you.

Thanks to the rest of you for your comments and suggestions. I did send an email to Griffin and HOwe, but have not heard from them.

I saw a side mount on a Remington Model 8 Friday. It had been soldered on, but I understand, from the owner/collector, that they also made ones you drill, tap, and screw down. Having seen this thread, I asked it he knew anyone who sold the mounts and he didn't, unfortunately.

The guy who had it had numerous Remington 8s, including some (quite a few, actually) very rare ones and an FBI model, which he had with him and did not have a mount on it. Not my cup of tea, but it's an interesting rifle.

Jack, Can you confirm that there are no pins or screws holding the mount on? Can you see, with the bolt open, the inside?

Hey Genelang,

I appreciate your response. You wouldn't happen to know the name of the man who had the Remington's would you. I would be interested in talking with him because I am also a Remington 8 & 81 collector. Thanks a million.

Jack

Hey Mike,

I have sent some pictures to your email. There are no pins or screws holding the base to the receiver. I checked the inside and it is free of penetrations.

Jack
