A few weeks ago a friend acquired a nicely done Mauser in .270 and is trying to identify the gunmaker/stockmaker. This "monogram" appears in the wood under the toe plate. The checkering, while fairly coarse, is done with mullered borders inside the fleur outlines. Any thoughts? Thanks very much. Craig Libhart

If the initals are NBF it could be Norman B. Fashingbauer of Lac Du Flambeau, Wis. He was highlighted in Guns and Ammo and J. Ambers Custom Guns in Gun Digest back in the 60's-70's. Thats all I got but will keep lookin'.

No worries, Peter. We had the metalwork out of the stock, and I kind of remember it's a Canjar trigger with a linkage system that engages a pin on the rotating cylinder of the trigger safety mechanism. Pretty simple design, but effective. Will work only with the Canjar though. Nice touch.

Canjar offered a factory tang safety for their triggers and it works exactly as you describe. I have a NOS one for a 1903 Springfield, still in the wrapper.

The safety button shown is custom, however. The Canjar factory button is plain and IMO ugly.
