I aquired these recently and found them quite interesting. Roy Smith helped in identifying some others I had, maybe he can help with these.
The left item appears to be a case scraper, maybe for brass shells. It is marked Lockyer's Patent.A.F. No 31079 Made in England
The middle item appears to be a bore cleaner. It is marked UnionHardware Co. PAT APPLIED FOR

The right item is an unmarked corkscrew/worm device. The circular handle is actually a spring that holds the worm extended or retracted (rotated into the handle) position. This is a well made piece

Any idea on age? What would the tiny worm be used for?

Thanks,
Chris

I'm guessing the corkscrew was to pull out stuck paper shells that had lost their brass head.

The thing on the left looks like it belonged in a doctors office crazy
The center piece looks like a variation of a Budd Petmecky bore cleaner...I'd guess the cork screw was just that a cork screw.

Chris,I am unable to idenity these tools. I have seen/owned the centre bore cleaner. This is in my opinion a push-pull,two way cleaner. Possible use, cleaning the bores and rifling of large bore rifle[ie:12G] and/or removal of lead residue in a shot gun.

Grandad had a scraper similar to the one shown for reaming out his pipe bowles .I have come across all sorts of things in gun cases ,a suprising amount have nothing to do with guns or shooting.

The heavy brass brush looking thing in the middle is just like one I have that came with a group of brass screw-in tools for an 1883 patent Bridgeport Gun Implement Company (B.G.I.Co.)brass ferruled maple four piece cleaning rod. Dunno 'bout the other two things in the picture...Geo

Chris, I am not a doctor but I think Joe is right about the instrument on the left. I think this instrument was (or is) used to keep wounds open for cleaning.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the input. I will have to do more research on the left tool. Maybe some of our English cousins can identify its purpose.

Chris,

I can find nothing on Lockyer except this US patent:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=WbdTAAA...p;q&f=false

I am going to guess this is the same Lockyer based on his residence in Darlington. Darlington was the home of the Golcher family. There were iron mines, smelting and gun makers in that small community.

I checked the British Small Arms Patents series - nothing.

I did a search on espacenet and found these two British patents:
http://v3.espacenet.com/publicationDetai...18209A&KC=A

http://v3.espacenet.com/publicationDetai...18209A&KC=A

In the descriptions he describes himself as a "Locomotive Engineer".

On a side note, the 1896 patent hit on espacenet is a good thing. Perhaps some one is updating their database.

Pete
