My local small town gun shop recently acquired a Beretta O/U front stuffer. On the "rib" it says "Beretta 1680-1980" so I'm guessing the date of manufacture is sort of obvious. It is a 12 ga. It has some cheapish decoration on the locks, is "case colored" and blued. Pretty plain wood. There is some corrosion around the nipples and on the trigger guard. I don't believe it was ever fired. Anybody seen one of these before? Value/info is appreciated as it looks like it would be fun. The price does not seem real high but a bit much and probably won't sell around here. I might be the new owner after X-mas!!

Does it look like this one??

If so it was made by Beretta back in the early '80's with limited production. Mine came with powder flask, shot flask and a number of tools.

I've had mine since about '82 and have had very good luck with it. Have taken pheasants, ducks, geese, bunnies, doves and bushy tails. The gun always goes off, it's pretty light and easy to carry. The load I use is 80gr of 2F and 1 1/8 oz of shot.

They go for around $500 to $800 around here (SE Wisconsin) depending on condition and accessories.

Yep could be twins, except yours seems to have a little better wood. The wood on the one here is very plain, and very light colored. I believe the rust corrosion is from improper storage. There are no tools with the gun however. I don't think that refinishing it to make the wood look better and cleaning it up would hurt it at all. I might even checker it!! The price is in the 800 range so it's a bit high right now but I will do some hagglin'.

Make sure the corrosion is not from someone firing it once and not cleaning it properly. That could be fatal to a gun of that type. They were very inexpensive when first offered and we all should have bought one. If it turns out that Beretta actually made that gun in their factory, they could go up in value substantially in the future if kept in good condition.

This Model perc O/U Beretta has a near cult following, in some charcoal-burning circles. If it checks out mechanically as sound, you won't get hurt at 600.00. Just make sure that it's something which you really wish to use. BP is great fun, but the 'new' can wear off quick, when the owner realizes that it needs a water-soluble cleaning after each use.nobig deal, there. I've run across BP guns with which a caretaker was ignorant or negligent. It isn't pretty.

BTW, the Pedersoli SxS are decent guns for the field, and cna be jug-choked or have screw-ins installed for a bit more than cyl pattern. Hint -- slower velocities generally yield a more even denser pattern.

Happy clouds of white smoke.

I know someone who has one of these and finds it more trouble than it is worth. He does clean it well after use and looks after it but had problems with flame cutting on the lower barrel around the primer nipple; so much so that it now only a single barrel gun for use. I would suspect that Beretta had them made for them or else did not research the design too well. Lagopus.....
