henri pieper: of liege belgium 1884-1898 at which time it became nicolas pieper. in 1905 it became anciens establissments pieper. they exported guns to the u.s.a. an entree grade double in the crescent grade. in the rating from A-F an 'A' BEING THE LOWEST GRADE [FROM HISTORY OF THE BREECH LOADING SHOTGUNS] BY CHARLES E CARTER. regards

The above is not true!

The Crescent guns were produced in the US. You have the Pieper dating wrong. If Carter states all the above, tear out those pages.

Pieper is recognised as having brought factory mechanisation to arms production in Belgium. Pieper produced guns that ranged from low entry level to high grade guns. They did not produce bespoke guns.

As to the original poster. It is impossible to tell the value of a gun without at least pictures.

I do not know your name, but I was not jumping on you! Again, if Carter states what you wrote, tear out the page.

These large survey books are nice for a quick reference, but they usually have dated information or some times mis-information. There is a reason you only paid $20 for the book. No one author can possibly cover all those makers and be 100% accurate.

My advice is that if some one is really serious about a maker, then do the research. Double check the facts, look for new sources. Find all the articles written about that maker. Heck, look for the factory records!

Here is the faq for posting pictures:
