I'm restocking a gun and would have liked to used a Dakota steel skeleton butt plate. Neither Brownells or Midway carries them anymore, as apparently Dakota isn't producing them for the catalog companies.

Anyone know of a new source?

Thanks in advance.

My RBL was due last month, but no word. Patiently waiting...

Be patient, I have a gentleman talked into producing them. He had some doubts but I convinced him to have the die made and it should be ready soon. These Butt plates will be a duplicate of the ones sold by all the others BUT, they will only be $100. instesd of the $150. charged by others. These B.P. will be of best quality. To insure himself from possib;e loss, he is only machine 200 for the run. If they sell well enough, he'll make more. This same B.P will also be used to make heel and toe clips. I will keep the board posted when they come available. Ken

Ken I wouldn't be affraid to predict that if your friend makes 200 he will be sitting on 150 of them untill the middle of this century.

Galazan, Brownells and Dakota have been sold out for some time and with no way of replenishing their stock.

Like most of these types of things, I think they'll sell a fair number of them every year to end up in someone's closet. That market is probably larger than those that will go right into a gun project, for a relative inexpensive item like this, IMO.

I have to concure with Ken, there is a market for skeleton butt plates. I need three for projects that I have in the works or in the planning stages. I'm sure I am not the only guy in this position. There are a couple of skeleton plates out there for purchase but They are of indifferent quality and I'm sure not going to use them.

I also know the gentleman that Ken is refering to. He is a good friend and a perfectionist metalsmith so these plates will be first class.

I would order a couple right now for two rifle projects. OK, it is only 1% of the proposed production, but the ground swell is growing.

are skeleton grip caps out of stock too? Man, this is putting me in a bind! I need both for a project that starts within 2 months, plus need others for future projects. I guess I could make one, but it would not be a good use of my time.

What options are in stock anywhere right now?

Okay, you guys all have seen the high quality of cousin Dougs work, right. Now, when someone like Doug states that these butt plates will be top of the line in quality, you can take it to the bank.
I would suggest you contact Glenn Fewless at 262-534-5154 to inquire about del. of these items. I know I'm going to be getting afew for present and future projects. Your interest might give him more confidence in making the grip cap as well as a plain non-skeletonized steel butt plate --- us engravers likeum. I told him he should make up some caps and have made a suggestion as to who can do this quickly. Glenn needs to hear from y'all.
