Gene, although I can't speak about the Clay Delay, I can testify that a delayed release for an automatic trap is a great aid to practicing alone. I use an old Comet automatic trap that has a wireless transmitter that I clip onto my shirt pocket. The trap is programmable to allow for different lengths of time in the delay. I keep it set on three seconds. This trap is a bit unusual in that it doesn't cock until the button is pressed. The trap then cocks itself and instantly throws the clay. This takes the three seconds, which is just enough for me to get my right hand on the gun's grip and premount. I premount because that is how I compete.
I really think you will like a VOX (voice activated) release, if you're interested in being able to practice by yourself. IMO, practicing alone is the very best way because you are not distracted by anything and can focus completely on the job at hand.
Hope you get some comments from someone who has actually used the delay system you asked about.
