I recently purchased a set of 10 gauge blackpowder reloading implements that has a mystery tool included. The gentlemen I purchased them from bought them in the late 80's or early 90's
from an 89 year old neighbor of his in-laws along Maryland's Eastern shore. The old guy flat out could not remember what the tool was used for. He did, however, regail my freind with tails of shallow bays sweetened with corn, and nightime sneakbox ambushes on flocks that numbered in the thousands with his double ten guns. If only these tools could talk!

Anyway, the one I am interested in finding out about is shown alone in the second picture. I've tried some internet sluething to no avail. Any information at all would be appreciated.

All of it:

The mystery tool:

The round object with the hole in the center is where you would stand your hull over the hole and punch out the primer. I have no idea about the other item.

The mystery tool looks something like a stuck case/shell remover.

Romac, In my opinion you mystery tool has no connection with reloading.Looks like a key or service tool of some kind.

Thanks Roy, I've started to think that way myself. It looks a lot like some kind of key. Who knows, maybe some kind of punt gun was fixed to a bowsprit and locked in by rotating some kind of turnbuckle. Or maybe it is just nothing of the sort with no hunting connection at all.

Your mystery tool is something unrelated the old boy put in with the other loading tools to screw with your head 100 years after the fact. Would have liked to have met that old gentleman.

It's probably the key to his wife's chastity belt....he was just hiding it with the reloading tools so no one would find it smile
