Hey guys, I've come across this 'British Made' 16ga. sxs. Any idea of the maker from the pics?

Here's what they say -

SIDE X SIDE SIDE LOCK, HAMMERLESS, 16GA X 2-1/2" 28" DAMASCUS BBLS, MOD/IC, HAMMERLESS BACK ACTION SIDELOCK, WALNUT SEMI-PISTOL GRIP STOCK, SPLINTER FORE END, DOUBLE TRIGGERS, EXTRACTOR, BRITISH MFG, VERY GOOD BORE.

Fine scroll engraving 90% coverage, nice wood but well hunted. Asking $1000

Thanks,

Don

Don:The maker's name should be on the sidelocks and the top rib. The barrel flats don't show any nitro proofs, but does show Birmingham proofs, so it is strictly a black powder (or low pressure load) gun. If you intend to shoot it I would have it checked over thoroughly by a competent double gunsmith.

Best Regards, George

Is that a Canadian Firearm Registration sticker on the underside, as in no serial number on that gun?
If the barrels are good, $1,000.00 is a fair price.
It's a sidelock? Can we see the rest of the gun?
Black powder proofs, as George says, and should be checked to make sure the bores have not been honed out to remove pits

The rest of the story.

If that helps?

Anybody notice the brazed repair on the barrel flats?

Don.

Don, I don't think the brazing is a repair. Take a look at this photo of a german
double I had over to refinish its stock. Pay attention to the upper right hand corner.

I would think that is how they were done.

I can't quite tell with the lock but if it cocks by the top lever rather than when the barrrels drop it may be a Gibbs & Pitt action gun. Lagopus.....

I'd agree with 1887 as the earliest date. However, I think it could be strictly black powder proof (thus lacking the "maximum" marking) up to 1904.
