To whom can I send LC Smith damascus barrels to measure the walls and give me a "professional opinion" of their suitability for use (with proper loads of course)?
What can I expect to pay for this service?
Thanks, CHAZ

Hi, Try Keath Kearcher, he specializes in restoring damascus bbls. Cost ????, you'll have to ask. http://members.toast.net/keithkearcher/Good Luck!!!! Greg

I usually take my barrel wall gauge to double gun shoots (Vintage Cup, Southern SxS)to check bbls before any possible purchases. A friend was looking at a Boss SLE damascus until we measured 15 thou in one barrel. The price did not reflect the thin barrel and he passed. Try going to a Vintager shoot. Someone almost always has a gauge. You should probably contact the nearest group first to ensure the gauge gets in the car. If you are near Charlotte we can get together and measure them.

I sent an email off to Keith, thank you.
I bought a 1897 LC Smith so inexpensively it really doesn't matter if I can shoot it or not, but I would like to fire it if it is safe. I really want to try a black and white refinish, and I enjoy "refurbishing" and glassing the stock. I guess it is practice for refinishing nicer guns. CHAZ

You won't get black and white from Mr. Kearcher. Other than that, he does nice work.

Kirk Merrington inspected the barrels on a WR hammer for me a few weeks ago. I don't recall exact price as I had other guns with him but I think it was about $50 for the inspection.

I received a reply email right away, and a very reasonable quote for the "look see."
I plan on doing the refinish myself, I just want an educated opinion on the safety of shooting the barrels. I have never had a damascus gun before.
Thanks, CHAZ

Hi, I'm pretty sure Keith does black and white. He has examples of two types of B&W on his site. I also asked about refinishing my set of bbls that are B&W and wanted to keep the same color, he e-mailed back quoting a price and didn't say that he didn't do B&W.
I guess an e-mail to him would confirm that.
Thanks!
Greg
