I have a Leupold 3x9 Compact (now Ultralight) on a Model 70 Carbine. It is an excellent scope, but next time I will get the 2x7.
Is your Remington a factory stocked Mannlicher?
I do love a Mannlicher stock. I have a factory Model 70 Mannlicher (about 2500 made from '68 to '72). It's a joy to use.

It is indeed. At some point down the road I'll restock it with this:

The above blank is quartersawn, claro. Quite dense and its been drying for 3 years. My moisture gauge says 12% currently, but I'm still going to let it go two more years. The blank is 41" long.

Off topic, but where does one buy a moisture gauge?

Here's the wedding band transition on a no name English 28 bore percussion gun I own. The barrel starts as an octagon at the breech then subtly transforms into a hexadecagon, then finally the wedding band transition to a round barrel.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Hello 1878,

I can't say I have ever seen one offered for sale, but I would think that web pages dealing with the making of high quality wooden furniture or specialist tool suppliers to that trade would be a good place to start.

You could always try 'Googleing' moisture gauge or variants of the title to see what you come up with. I would suggest you use the word 'timber' or 'wood' in the search phrase otherwise you'll get all sorts of hits that will be of no interest.

Alternatively, you could contact some of the stockmakers who frequent this Forum and ask them if they have one, and where they got it, or who made it.

(Just my 2 bucks worth what with inflation and all). Good luck.

Harry

I got mine several years ago off Ebay. Its a Delmhorst with probe pins and works great. The local guy near me that sells lumber for a living has both the pin type and the new type which you just set against the wood and while you run it the length of the wood, it provides readings. Here's the Delmhorst website. They seem to be one of the better ones out there for what I've heard.

Here's one I had done on a Ruger #1 a couple of years ago.

I've posted photos of this rifle here before.

The step between octagon and round is greater than I had originally envisaged, but it's grown on me. I enjoy hunting with this rifle.

Best of luck with your rifle.

Rob, That is the very most classic fowler barrel transition and I've filed many a sixteen side to make a Getz fowler barrels look like that.
I dove into the archives long enough to find a copy of the American Fowler Brochure (four 8.5x11 pages, front and back covers shown - circa 1989, base price $3650). I built ten of these guns, originally planned to build twenty with my youthful optimism. My apologise for the sidetrack... BTW: I also did the entire brochure, except printing back when layout and paste-up meant scissors and glue.

Lovely gun Steve, did you make all 10 at once or to order?

Here's a few more pics of mine. It's in excellent condition, The only proof mark tells me it was Birmingham made. I'd like to shoot it someday but really don't know too much about what loads would be safe.

Each was built to order, I still have the brochure gun, fortunately!
They are more in demand now than when I was building them.
Written up in 1986 Gun Digest and on the cover of Feb. 1986 Muzzle Blasts.

Your gun has the look of the flintlock era as for hardware, pineapple finial. Does the breech or lock show any signs of conversion?
Lovely engraving, my favorite style and coverage!
I do greatly enjoy the subtlety of the octagon to round transition...
