I wasn't going to post this until I had pictures, but decided to go ahead anyhow. Perhaps you guys can chew on it awhile. I'll try to post in the next couple of days. I recently bought a Sedgley marked sporter. However the rifle has a number of items that have me wondering. It is a 338-06, so I believe it has been rebored. The caliber marking is for 30-06 and above it is a lighter stamp 338. Also, the barrel markings are "F.Sedgley Inc. Phila. PA" on the first line. The second line is "Manufacturer of Firearms". I cannot find evidence of an R. Also cannot find the circle S mark. The action is a Springfield and apparently has the Sedgley Speed lock because the cocking piece is back about .25 inches. The serial number is on the underside of the bolt handle and is four digits, 2xxx. The Stock is very well done and looks exactly like the illustrations in Michael Petrov's book. I'm sure butt pad has been changed, because there is a Pachmayr solid pad. Got any opinion or insights, I'm planning to use the gun, but want to have it checked out first. Definitely want to get a headspace check. The serial number has been removed from the action in Sedgley style, so a little concerned about the metallergy.

Nice rifle from here, pretty decent job on the photos also. Is that a Deluxe?

A nice rifle, I've seen a few of these "Two-line" address rifles and I'm not sure when they were made. The finish, both metal and wood does not look like the early Sedgley stuff.

Thanks for the comments on the photos, it was a quick attempt to get them on line. Only problem was the markings not showing up well, but if any additional photos are need I'll be glad to take them. I wondered about the light stock finish and wondered if it could have been redone. It strongly resembles the finishes that came out of Jaeger. Possible this could have been done at the time the pad was replaced. If it was refinished, it was done well. Even if not a completely original Sedgley, I find it an attractive rifle which fits me well. So planning to use it. No scope, I'd rather not mess up the lines and prefer to use the Lyman 48. If I want longer range shooting, I've got a 338 Win Mag.

Hi:
I love ther lines on this rifle! It is a very well done piece of art.
Would you kindly post a picture of the bottom metal?

I didn't post the picture of the bottom metal because it is stock 1903 Springfield, nothing noteworthy. In order to open the floor plate, you have to use a bullet tip or other item to depress. Unfortunately the rifle is not available for additional pictures. Yesterday I turned it over to a gunsmith to get it checked out. Probably be awhile t'll I get it back.
