I just found where I had seen it. It looks like the ads in MP's book for the Manhattan Gun and repair Shop Stocks.

Congrats on your first 1903, I bet it feels lonely in the company of all your Savage 99's. You should buy some more.

I've been looking for a better picture of the rifle than is in the book without luck. I'll see what I can find. There was a Mauser on Gunbroker by them a while back.

The stock was inletted for the collar on the barrel but the sight has been crudely ground off. The White grip cap is crude also but the checkering is cleanly done. SN is 459xxx.

I asked to look at the gun and the fella kept trying to sell me on a A303 with a new barrel and a shiny stock and scope. "much better gun" smile

I only have a 49 yard indoor range close enough to make a lunch time range run but I was happy to find the 5-11 dated barrel could shoot 1" groups of three at that range.

I do need to know the screw size and length needed to mount a Lyman 48S. Third variation if that is important.

Hi Gary,

The screw size for the Lyman 48 is a 6-48, I don't know the
lengths off the top of my head but if no one replies by this evening, I will get out a sight and measure them.

I have a 1903 that was drilled and tapped for a receiver sight.
When I went to try a Lyman 48 on it, I found that the front
of the sight block interfered with the bolt. A Redfield 102
like you have on yours worked fine. You may encounter similar
difficulties. I hope not.

All the best,

PhysDoc
