Hi all, I just want to thank you all for your kind input and the looking you have done. What I stated is my ideal of a perfect upland gun. The closet I've found is the Tristar Brittany Classic. Yes, I know its made by Zabala and they are known as a lower end spanish gun. Reading some posts by others, some seem to loath these guns. But, for my price range (I have a family of 10 to feed) it seems to fit what I need. I've also read some good on these guns and some so, so. If any of you have any input on these guns (or BSA) great! I'd love to hear them.

Never seen a Brittany in 16. Gander and others had a few lurking on sale for around $800, think they were 12s and 20s. Didn't look that close.

A family of 10? Have you considered a pump?

Thanks Ted, I do have several pumps, but I LOVE my SxS's of course I bought most of my guns before I got married and kids!

But every now and then, I manage to save a little and sneak one into the safe (under the cover of darkness - so no one will know of course!)

What were your impressions of the Brittanys you saw?

Considered a pump? Pffffffft!! Has he considered trying to find out what caused them ten mouths he has to feed? Just kidding.
Unless you're in a big hurry for some reason, take your time and look at all you can. When the one you want shows up, latch onto it.

Have both a 12 and 28 BSA(Zabala). Have had them for almost 1 year sans problems. While the 28 is built on a 20 frame it is rather quick and with the cast off(right) I shoot it pretty well. Used it quite successfully on box birds before they got their winter plumage. Makes a great gun to carry. The 12 is not as graceful as a "sweet elsie"/Parker but not bad. Both have chrome blackened barrels(outside) and crome linings, wood to metal is "Good", color case is there-but thin, screw in chokes are fine(a la Beretta), ejectors are good-over my shoulder. As I've said before on this very subject, these are the guns Wetherby cancelled out after 400 guns 2-3 years ago. I do not think they are selling well now, probably due to the Hermanos Zabala "baggage" of the 1970's.(Those were BAD!!) Good luck, Dr. BILL ps Families of 10 are what kept me in "business"(Ob-Gyn) for 31 years!

I am with the guys who say it is not enough money- if you want a decent SXS. If I only had $1000.00 to spend on a gun, (which really is a good deal of money) and I had to have a gun, I would go with a Superposed, 101, new Beretta O/U then maybe a new 391, new 870 maybe a used Ithaca 37. Or something along these lines. But $1000.00 just isn't going to be quite enough for a decent, dependable SXS. Maybe a Miroku or a Savage Fox like someone said. JMO. Good luck.

Remember the Savage-Fox model B's are just (barely) nicer Stevens 311's. There are 16's out there with ejectors, but I'm 99% sure they only built them with 28" barrels. And the non-12 ga Savage-Fox model B's do auction for a decent amount of money. So much so I've sold all mine over the last few years.

DeHaan shotguns carry a Turkish SxS called an "S2" that covers the bill except for the ejectors - has extractors. Otherwise a nice gun for the money. You can see them at http://www.dhshotguns.com/

I agree with everyone else that more money will get you a better SxS, but the DeHaan's are pretty nice, really, although I prefer the SO model with straight grip and double triggers and more restrained engraving.
