I recently bought a used Arrieta. It's my first sxs and I can't wait to get a little warmer weather in MN so I can get out and shoot it. I'm trying to find out how to get some history on the gun. I know I'm the third owner and it's the #1 gun from a matched pair but I'm not sure when it was manufactured. I assume someone could use the serial numbers to get the info but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

If you will describe the various numbers and codes from the underside of the barrels, we may be able to assist you.

The numbers are: 57-03-85-96. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 57 means that it was made by Arrieta. The 03 means that it was a shotgun. The 85 means that it was the 85th action serial numbered that year and the 96 means that it was made in 1996.
Arrieta guns do not have the model listed on the gun but you can probably determine it from the number of pins (5 or 7) and the style of the engraving as compared to the descriptions in the Blue Book.

Thank you so much for the help. One interesting fact about this gun is that when I was buying the prvious owner just happened to be there. It's Larry Brown the outdoor writer. We spoke for some time about the gun and hunting. It was pretty interesting.

Your shotgun is a model 557. As you already know, it is a 20 gauge gun, one of a pair. It was originally sold through Diana Viaji in Madrid, Spain. Enjoy your acquisition.
