I am looking at a trade on a post war JP Sauer Royal made in W. Germany. The gun is in excellent condition with good colors. Other features include double trigger, cheek piece, F/half full choke, pistol grip, side clips, and ejectors. What is the quality of this piece and is a real value on it. I have checked the auction sites and haven't had much luck.

I bought three of these a few years back, from an IBM techrep who went to germany in the 50's..I honestly dont know if they we pre or post war, but they were nice guns..2 12's and a 16..I sold them to Cabelas for about a grand a piece as I remember..I am not telling ANYONE what I paid for them...

You will find them to be quite nice and durable guns. The Royal has the ejectors as you noted. In 12ga I would expect in a high state of original finish about $1500 to $1800 would be reasonable. And at that price would still be undervalued compared to many of the US classics and new stuff on the market.

Agree with Jerry. Given the current state of the market, you might even catch a 12ga Royal for less than $1500--and that would be a good buy.

I've bought two of these in the last year, both in great shape. Easy swinging, well made and strong. I paid $1200 for one and $1300 for the other - both with 97%+ black on the barrels...
