The real trouble comes when you are used to the tang safety and then use a drilling with greener safety...utilizing the top tang button then activates the rifle! STeve

That's why I prefer Drillings with "Swedish" arrangement: normal slide safety on top tang, a small selector lever just behind opening lever. My 1953 Borovnik is like that.

With kind regards,

1CDOG,

I am looking for a Greener tang safety now and have a line on one. Greeners are not that common, so I have not been able to handle one. What is your impression? I really like the idea of an English 6lb 12 ga. gun for upland.

I've seen exactly one - a German drilling - that had the side safety set up on the gun's right side, i.e., in position for a lefty's thumb. Only one.

Another example of anti-lefty bias. frown

As a lefty, I much prefer a tang safety on just about anything. If I were to pick up a pump gun, it would be a Mossberg 500 precisely because it, unlike an 870 or Ithaca 37, has a tang safety.

Cazman,

As I mentioned I own/shoot a sidelock Greener so my safety is in basically the same place as any other sidelock. I love my gun - it goes bang when I pull the triggers and it's as accurate as I am. It's a well built, well balanced gun.

Cheers,
Cdog

I'm a lefty and I like drillings, so I've been around quite a few of the Greener safeties. I don't like them. I once had a LH Greener safe and didn't like it much better. My favorite drilling has a tang safety. I once had a left mounted Greener safe fitted with a rod that extended over the tang. Worked fine but I took it off before I sold it for fear of lawsuits.
