Gentlemen:
With the identification issues of "R" frame vs. "FW" frame now placed behind me as a result of the deligent input from some very fine gentlemen on this forum site, I wish to begin to put my Elsie back to near original.
I have several buggered up screw heads, if you will pardon the expression, which I need to purchase replacement for. Dealing with Numrich Arms, in my experience, is much like shooting a scatter gun in the dark. That is, a goodly number of "returns for credit". During the course of my introduction to the fine Double Gun Forum, I recall reading a post wherein the gentleman indicated that all of the original L.C.Smith replacement parts avaiable through Numrich were for the Featherweigh frame.
Rather than ask for varification on that point from Numrich, is there anyone among us who can address that question for me?
Again, thanks to Dr. Hause and to all responders for all of your help on my frame I.D. issues. I wish each of you, and your respective families, a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow and especially to those who may be putting poultry on the dinner table with the assistance of a L.C. Smith double gun.

Most replacement screws will have an oversize head that protrudes higher and will have to be filed and polished to fit well. Galazan (CSMC) sells a LC Smith set that is not labeled FW or R. I'm suspicious that the screws may be the same. Bobby or some others here may know. I don't have any R framed guns.

Most of the stock from Numrich for hammerless guns will be for the FW frame. The screws that will work for both frames; the front trigger plate screw, top lever screw, and some of the internal bridle screws. The side plate connecting screw for the FW frame is shorter, and you don't want to use that in a Regular frame. If you do and make it flush and oriented right, you will put more pressure between the two locks and it could be possible that the sears might rub each other and you will get a double fire.
Since your gun is a FW frame, you will be ok with the screws they sell, but don't expect them to orientate to the gun, especially the front trigger plate screw.
The way that has to be done is make the screw head longer, put a slot in it, put lay-out blue on head, tighten and mark for orientation. Measure depth of recess in trigger plate and make head that depth. Saw new slot, polish and blue and install. A lot of work, but that is what has to be done to make it look right.
Good luck and let us know how you make out, and thanks for thinking of our Thanksgiving celebration.

Yup- big mystery on that R frame- but Elsie parts are not that hard to find- I have bushings for the pre-1913 series guns, machine screws and through bolts, top lever springs-etc. The real main difference between a std. weight Elsie frame and the shorter FW frame- besides the dim. at the front "knuckle" is the length of the cocking rods- I'll send you a personal e-mail and we'll see if I may have the original (not Galazan or Numrich after market) parts you need-

The Klunkermiester used to say that a lot of the screws from an old manual Smith-Corona typewriter would fit perfectly as replacements for the LCS guns...Geo

Geo, I believe it was just the L.C. Smith not Corona typewriter. Still selling on eBay, a lot for shipping.

Never bought any LC Smith screws from Numrich or Galazan but the Fox new old stock screws i have oversize heads like Chuck said and take a good bit of fitting and filing to fit properly and get them indexed. Bobby

All very good information and appreciated.
JDW--Thanks for your heads up on the process by which one would "index" the screw slot to the factory location.
I have purchased J. Stevens A. & T. Co. gun parts from Numrich in the past and the process can be a trial, but when one needs a part, the trial of dealing with them is secondary.
I enterred their web site this morning and placed an initial order for parts, one of which was their "Dog Head" pistol grip cap with two screw holes. I realize that such a piece would not be O.E.M. on the Field Grade, but perhaps it was made available on the upper grades. Can anyone confirm the factory use of the Dog Head cap?

I personally have never seen one on an L.C. Smith, but like anything, you could order "anything within reason".
