I have in my collection an old Crescent hammer gun in 12 gauge. It has 30" plain twist barrels and is in very good shape-tight,clean bores, fair amount of case color etc.It belonged to my uncle and was the first double I ever fired. He often told me the story of how he bought the gun in a hardware store in Knoxville Tenn in the 1920s.He hunted with this gun right up until his death in 1965 when I was 15.He always took very good care of his guns hence its current condition, but he used it a lot. When he died he left me his guns.I picked the guns and ammo up and took them home-the shotgun shells he had were about half a box of super X and a handfull of Winchester double O buck!!! I wonder how many of these loads that old gun digested in its life? Makes me grin every time I hear about "dangerous damascus".I still shoot the gun on occasion but I use RST low pressure shells! I reckon its been pretty well "proof tested".NOTE this is NOT a reccomendation or suggestion that anyone shoot any damascus or twist barrel guns!!
