Dig, that is far too simple. Aside from the fact that many of us love technical discussions, we also actually enjoy the self-sufficiency of handloading. I was delighted that a correction/extension was made to information I provided - nice review for me. With loading tools and supplies at hand, I can have any load within reason. And, I actually enjoy looking a crate of shells and knowing exactly what they are.

Dig, many of us love RST's. I use them regularly when hunting. However, if you're shooting high volume, like a lot of targets, you can work up very reasonable reloads for half the price, or less. How can you tell that Brits don't reload as much as Yanks? Because Brits make very flimsy shell boxes.

Why not just buy some 2 1/2" shells from RST? I like to do a lot of shooting on a very limited budget (six kids, an unfortunate addiction to buying expensive old Winchesters, etc.) Loading up my own 2 & 1/2" shells is much cheaper than purchasing factory ammo.

This diagram shows the stress distribution For a thin wall cylinder the inside and outside stress is almost the same. The area just ahead of the chamber probably doesnt qualify as thin walled. Most of the barrel certainly does. Great graphic Ryan. Thanks much.

The lack of popularity of reloading in the UK makes me wonder what the demographics of the shooters in the UK looks like compared to the US. How about high volume shooting?

Which load do you prefer for Woodchuck stalking ? Well, I've been using various shot size in a 20 Bore for a few years, so I'm thinking that about 1 oz of #2 shot out of a 12 Bore should work fine at whatever 7,500 psi will give me. Either that or use 1 & 1/8 oz of shot at the same pressure and drop the velocity a bit. I'll have to experiment. The Woodchucks are still snoring away in their burrows right now up here in Canada. I figure I have about one more month before they come blinking out of their winter digs.

I don't think so but we have a huge choice of good 2 1/2" shells for game shooting - Game Bore Pure Gold, Hull High Pheasant, Eley Grand Prix and for clays Express HV, Eley Trap etc.
