After reading Small Bores post about gun conditions I just had to share.I recently purchased a project that if it were as stated, I would have been more than happy with the deal. When gun was unpackaged (packaging was perfect)I noticed the rib was loose half the way down the barrel. I called seller and he refunded part of the cost. He had me eat shipping both ways which I think is wrong because gun was not and is not as described as it was reposted with no mention of the cracked rib. So! Here it is again.Item Z10243 http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.p...01f37f64f49b78a A simson SxS with no stock ,needs a trigger guard, And need to add "LOOSE RIB" I would not be throwing gas on this fire but hate to see people getting taken advantage of.

I hate to say it, but the piece is obviously meant for a project and we are talking 2 Benjamins here. Is it worth calling one of the most respected families in the business a bunch of crooks over a differing opinion of "as is"?. It wouldn't be plucked like a chicken (less stock and bow) if it were ready to take the range that afternoon

Well, as soon as something is sold "AS IS", I hope for the best but expect the worse. Then there are no surprises. Perhaps the seller should have stated the loose rib. However, it was marked as is and that means there is a bit of a gamble. And when marked "as is", the buyer doesn't need to take it back. In this case they did. When I sell a gun to someone, I tell them I will take it back if they are not happy but I tell them I will not give shipping costs back. I will not pay for shipping because someone changed their mind after the sale.

I've bought guns from Simpson and never had a problem.

Sometimes the anticipation of a "steal" or "deal" can hamper your powers of reason. Do you play poker?

I have bought several, no complaints . Gun was marked as is. Both guns I bought recently were better than describe. Latest was a Rolling Block in 12.7x44...

Agree with the above posters. Even though your loose rib was not specifically detailed, the ad clearly says "as is." You must be prepared to take some risks with an "as is" purchase. That, plus the fact that he took it back at all says to me that you have no beef with this seller, surely not to the point of calling him a "crooked seller."

I think this goes to show what a good dealer they are. Took it back, even tho the gun was clearly stated "as is", I think he had no obligation for any refund...

Don't agree with the crooked seller comment, but if I were the seller, I would have disclosed the rib problem. "As is" shouldn't mean no disclosure - just that if you buy it there are no warrantees against hidden defects.

If he had been a crook he wouldn't have taken it back.
