I have had a Winchester A5 Scope on a little Greener take down Martini 22L/R for the past forty years or so.
Its got British Military markings on it and I believe five or six hundred of these scopes were purchased in 1914-15 for use on British sniper rifles but I have never seen or found on the internet a photo of one of these on any military rifle.
Anybody got any photo's or can point me to a web site which has photo's?

Hi Michael,
thanks for that. Often wondered how it was mounted on a service rifle. Seen plenty of photo's of them mounted on sporting rifles but never on a service rifle.
Spent over an hour this morning looking at web sites for photo's, to no avail.
Originally on a 350 Rigby but I only ever fired this rifle with open sights and then only to get it shooting again with the band taken off 375 H/H cases. Brute of a thing to shoot which is probably the reason a lot of big bore rifles are in such good condition. They don't get shot much.

I used to have one.
There are pictures of them in The Lee Enfield Story by Ian Skennerton.
The scopes were mounted off to the left of the barrel, great if you are left eye dominant, not so great if you weren't.
The mounts can be made out of some angle iron if you have a little talent.
A very rare rifle as most of them were decommissioned after WWI and the scopes sold off.

John
