All dependent on how you go at it. All the shotgun sports use up quite a bit of coin. A typical Sporting Clay Tourney of 100 birds is going to run from $45 TO $75 for entry. Add to that any class options. If I have to drive more than an a couple of hours, I prefer 200 bird tourneys. Add your ammo price to that and fuel and chow. Plan on using up a day. Oh yeah add in a lot of practice and a good instructor. Cha Ching!
Great fun though...I used to think Golf was expensive!!!!

One point that no one else mentioned is -- RECOIL PAD. Anyone shooting Sporting Clays will be subjected to continuous recoil. A 1" Kick-Eze soft rubber recoil pad will be a big benefit.

Not elegant, but the CZ (Huglu) SxS's come with choke tubes, and cost about $800. In the USA their service and warranty are excellent.

I'll take you up on that offer, Joe, if I make it there. It's gonna be tough, but I'm going to try. I shoot a team fundraiser charity sporting clays event each April at Cherokee Rose, and it is on that Friday. They have already paid for me to be on the team, so I really hate to miss, but I'm gonna try to drive up early Saturday morning for the rest of it.

Hope we were able to help. The BSS is a very easy gun to shoot well, as long as it fits you reasonably well. Good luck. Glad nobody warned me about what sporting clay competition costs. It might have scared me off, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I'd pick up aluminum cans out of the ditches to buy shells if I had to, to keep shooting.

A 20ga would be my choice these days as the ammo is the same price and the shells are smaller and lighter to carry. Recoil is also lower in my BSS guns. I haven't lugged my 12g BSS out for any reason in over 7-8 yrs.

I live in NC but thanks for the offer. I don't intend to shoot in competition -- just probably once a month at the local range. Anyone got any advice on an Urgatechea?

Great guns for the money, probably the best value in the "name" Spanish guns. Generally a little light for serious clays, but should be fine for casual, once-a-month shoots. Shoot light loads and you will be happy. Lots of variations in models and features, depending on the age of the gun, so shop carefully.

I am also looking at the CZ Ringneck that I believe is made by Huglue as it is a reasonably priced gun. Not to muddy the waters but I am also contemplating going with a 16 ga. Anyone know what the difference is between a CZ Ringneck and a CZ Bob White (apart from price)?
