I decided to take my 9 year old shooting partner with me to Sanford this year. He just started shooting skeet in January and had never shot 5-Stand before. He was shooting an Ideal Grade L.C. Smith with 26" barrels, ejectors, Hunter One Trigger and a beavertail. The gun was special ordered for Mrs. Kenna, the wife of Frank Kenna who owned Marlin Firearms when they bought Hunter Arms. The gun is a two barrel set gun with an additional set of 30" barrels and another beavertail forend.

He won the "High Junior" award for his score of 27 out of 60 targets on the 5-Stand. He also shot the small bore course with that 20ga. Below are some pics.

Cool. I wish that when I was 9, I'd had a shootin' partner like he does.

Fantastic! Brings back memories of taking my then 9 yr old to sporting clays tournaments with his 28 gauge. Sometimes his score was higher than adults shooting 12 gauges. Time spent with your kids is priceless and means more to them than anything else.

Christopher, great pictures of Will. I wonder if Mrs. Kenna shot it that well.
Great to finally meet you and Will at the Southern. Looking forward to next year.

Awesome job! Keep up the good shooting. Who here doesn't wish he would have had that opportunity at 9 years old.

I take my 9 year old to shoot sporting clays and skeet and I am always worried we will get grouped with someone who objects. So far the exact opposite has been true, he has had the support and encouragement of everyone with which we have shot. I think that says something about the "caliber" of people who participate in our sport.

Hey, Chris. 27? Why didn't you ask me to lend him one of my tens. He would have been well into the thirties with a little more gun. A twelve gauge is just not enough for this game. Bill Murphy

Bill,

He was shooting a 20ga. Not sure he is quite ready for a big ten bore. When he is, I have a Quality 3 10 bore waiting on him.
