I recently aquired a J P Sauer Model XVII in 12 gage. There was a posting on this site a very short while back that had a diagram of the extra screws in the frame and the sear layout on the guns with "intercepting sears" which of course my gun has, to put in the Sauer catalog I have of that vintage. Also, one of the posts on that thread indicated frame markings on the water table by the serial number of FW and TW. Mine has AW in this location. What is the significance of these marks, the engraver? Also a neat discovery when I took the buttplate off(horn) to repair the worm holes, I discovered the serial number on the wood, the buttplate, and the name A Englemann written in the same silver colored wax pencil. I assume he was the final assembler maybe? Any thoughts anybody? Regards Lee.
