To settle a gun club discussion , do Ithaca NIDs have a hammer nose that acts as a firing pin, or a seperate firing pin that is hit by the hammer ? Thank you.

The Ithaca NID series has the firing pin integral with the forged hammer, as does the Fox and Parker and the Model 21. The NID is a very stout action- John Olin didn't "upsize" his fledgling M21 to handle a 3.5" 10 magnum shell in 1932-33- he went to friend Lou Smith at Ithaca and they designed a NID beefed up for that "Roman Candle" shell- I have a hunting pal with a 1938 era 12 NID Grade 3E- 28" M&F, DT- and I am first in line if he ever decides to sell it- not likely- darn fine boxlock doubles, IMO!!

Separate firing pins that are retained by a little bugger of a screw.

RWTF, You may consider joining the Shotgun World "I Love My Ithaca Forum", where you will find several equally verbose cousins who also "know not of what they speak".

Dang you RWTF and I thought the NID I pulled out of the Ultrasonic to peek at was a rare one off prototype!
