Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I am primarily interested in large bore shotguns of any configuration, 8 Ga or larger, or related "market" guns. I have a Mortimer d/b 10Ga here, flint converted to percussion with 47" barrels. It's the longest double I have encountered, and was wondering if anyone has seen any longer? I know single barrels could be had quite longer, but as far as doubles go I thought this was a stretch.

Yes, it is long for a double. I always regret not purchasing a single 8 bore percussion gun here in England some years ago which had something like a 50 odd inch barrel. Those guns were called 'marsh rails' and were used much in the manner of punt guns but off the bankside to shoot at rafts of duck on the water. It is possible that yours is one such.

If you would contact Bob Watcham at marshlandbooks@btinternet.com here in England as he is trying to compile a directory of big bore guns with photographs with a view to publishing it in book form. I am sure he would be very interested indeed in seeing photos and details of your gun. He does not wish to include details of owners just details of interesting guns. Lagopus.....

In a museum in Liege there is a set of finished damascus barrels that measure at least 60" inches in length. There is no placard explaining them. They appear to be at least 10 gauge. I assume they were intended for a canard, punt gun.

How much does that gun weigh?

I haven't weighed it and don't have it in my hands at the moment, but I would say it weighs about 13 or 14 lbs. It's not super heavy, but well built. I think it was definitely intended to be fired from the shoulder.
