I have one off a Mark X. They have the side button. I'm sure the cost can be quite right for you, PM me if you are interested.

LRF thanks but I'd rather not alter the original stock on this old .404. I'll wait for one that doesn't have a side button.

Mike,
I have a hinged floor plate with locking screws and locking lever (broken-off). I believe it's an Oberndorf as the back of the box carries serial number 99961.

I am pretty certain that the magazine box of a standard Model 98 trigger guard will be too short for a .404 Jeffery without modification. This would include commercial hinged TGs from the Interarms Mark X (.30-06 length) as well as military ones like the Argentine Model 1909 and Portuguese Model 1904 (8x57 length).

Unless Steve's Oberndorf TG is long enough, your best bet for a factory hinged TG for a .404 Jeffery would be from an Interarms "Whitworth" Mark X in .375 H&H or a corresponding Remington 798 (both made by Zastava). Most of these have the side button floorplate release (mentioned by LRF) but some early ones had the release latch inside the trigger bow.

The other factor to consider is whether your stock is inlet for a "long" front tang (as used on most military Model 98s with a lock screw) or a "short" one used on many post-WW2 commercial rifles (like the FN and Mark X).

If I was putting it on a good original magnum length rifle, I'd get a new one from Duane Wiebe.

Blackburn and Sunny Hill are also options, but actually taking delivery from either is (from what I've heard many times) very problematic. Duane is johnny on the spot and his metal work is superb.

I believe Blackburn is now owned by Swift Bullets and I get periodic letters from them giving status updates. They say most of the issues have been resolved and production I believe has eliminated most if not all the backlog. You might want to call them.
