I canceled my trip because of the forecasts yesterday and the weather channel today seems to confirm my fears. What little they're reporting from that area is 25-35mph winds, 2-3 inches or rain already with 4-6 more to come. I was bringing three kids aged 9,8 and five along with a very prissy woman so I think I made the right choice.

Left there at noon today. No rain to speak of and shooting was in full swing. Didn't see any rain all the way home. The forecast kept a lot of people away. Too bad really.

It must depend on which web site you're on. Fella on the Parker web site posted it was raining steady there since early morning. No rain to speak of here. Hummmm.

My take on the rain situation was a little different from Walters', I guess. I arrived there at about 9 a.m. and it was raining. It rained for about two hours and quit before noon. these were not hard rains at all, but enough to get you wet through your everyday clothing. I shot the .410 and the 20 gauge in that mess before lunch. Then it stopped for about 2-3 hours. After lunch I shot the hammergun main event (Saturday's 75 targets) in no rain, then as I began shooting the hammerless main event the rain returned and kept up most of the rest of the day. Eightbore and his lovely Miss Linda, and I, watched the L.C. Smith/Parker challenge final event from shelter, while the teams shot it out in the rain. I agree with Walter that it was a shame so many stayed away because of the weather. I didn't hear a soul say that they were sorry they came!

Today was much nicer, windy, but no rain at all and very pleasant temps. It was another fine event. Vendors were somewhat less than last year, but those that attended had some fine guns and other wares to sell. One vendor, new to the event, was there in "full force", Kevin's, of Thomasville, GA. They brought a huge selection of guns and other items. Steve Barnett was certainly missed.

Targets were great. Rick never fails in that department, nor in the total hospitality package. His trappers are among the best in the business, many I remembered from previous years. I overheard him and Bill Kempffer making plans for future events. Good news indeed!

So good to see old friends, and to have made new ones. All my best to those who traveled down from the northeast and are now returning to what may be a bad scenario from the impact of Sandy. My prayers and best wishes are with you.

My Son Danny and I along with another PGCA member travelled down on Thursday. It was our first visit to Backwoods and we were not disappointed. The shooting was great and the PGCA banquet was a huge successs. Because of the impending storm we left Saturday about 2 and drove to Virginia spent the night with friends and got home about 2PM today. A wonderful event...

Stan, sorry I didn't meet up with you. Probably rubbed shoulders without a shout. I left the hotel in Pawleys island about 10 am ish on Sat. and rain wasn't bothersome to me at least. I shot Friday pm and hoped to meet a friend Sat morning for more shooting. He had some health issues and couldn't come. As I said, I left about 12:30 so missed the pm rain you struggled through. Hope we can shout hey at Deep River. My short visit was great!

You find any long-barreled Smiths or Foxes that got your pressure up, Stan?

I briefly touched base with Walt and his lovely companion, but didn't get to really talk guns or shoot with him. Shared more time with Stan, took supper with Harry Collins and Stan Saturday, courtesy of Rick Hemingway. As we speak, Linda and I are home in Maryland, a bit ahead of the storm, and feasting on Stan's raw peanuts while a tray full roast in the oven for tomorrow's breakfast. Bill Murphy

Sorry I missed you, Walt. Maybe next time. And you prolly made the right decision, Cary. It wouldn't have been much fun with the whole family in that rain, unless you had stayed under shelter the whole time, and the kids wouldn't have enjoyed that much.

Didn't see any at all, John. There was one nice 28" 16 ga. Sterly at the CSMC tables, and I was tempted, but decided in the end to pass. It was nice condition and original, no messed up screws or anything, but I have basically sworn off buying any more extractor guns for birds, with the exception of duck guns, and it was an extractor gun.

Glad you and Linda got home safe, Bill. Really enjoyed spending some time with ya'll. Glad you're enjoying them goobers. There's plenty more where they came from. I had never met Harry, and it was a great pleasure. We hit it off easily, and talked more Sunday afternoon. Do you have any contact information for him? I'd like to get back in touch with him sometime. Thanks.
