Just heard about an Alexander Henry 12 bore Damascus with a "bunch" of "fine" engraving that might be coming my way.. don�t know anything about model or year yet and I couldn�t find too much about AH in my books or online� I know they started in Edinburgh 1853 made primarily rifles..

Anybody own one? Is there anything to stay away from? Do�s and don�ts on these (besides the obvious condition condition con� & barrel wall thickness)?

So far as I recall Dicksons hold the Henry records. I have had a couple of Henry hammer guns, very good quality. Also a double rifle in .303. Again good quality and no defects.

I was just researching Alexander Henry a couple of weeks ago as there is a Henry 16 gauge boxlock for sale here in Canada. It's a pretty basic gun with no engraving. Most of the information I came across also dealt with Alex Henry rifles.

I have a couple of Alex Henry's, a side-lock and a hammer gun 20-bore with two sets of barrels. Very nice quality, an innovative and important maker with some nice guns and rifles to his credit.

I've got a beautiful Alex Henry 12 bore BP percussion double shotgun as well as a .450 3 1/4 BPE double rifle.

Wonderful guns both, the quality of all the important things just top-notch.

Currently they are running neck to neck with Westley Richards as my favorite gunmaker.
