I am not sure of the proper gun to shoot turkeys in California School yards but in Texas you can take Lawyers with a twenty eight gage. Not sure if your allowed to bait them in or use an ambulance siren to call them up. Great job on the turkeys J0e

A friend's son (40 ish) shot a 25 or so lb turkey with his 410 on a 10 yard passing shot on the wing. This was up in Weiser Idaho a few weeks ago. He used a 3" shell with 3/4 oz of #6 shot. Headshot. DOA.

I've flushed a few turkeys off-season. Compared to pheasant and quail it's like watching a B-52 take off. Even if I'd had a .22 I could've shot them, they were that big and slow. Steve

They'll both carry a lot of lead Uh, steel too, so unless you make the neck/head shot you're probably not going to harvest the bird...Geo

It is legal to hunt turkey with an air rifle in Cali so the proper answer is an airgun.

They are a member of the pheasant family and they were a featured dish at banquets in Ancient Rome, so....
Seriously, if you get one, I'll take some of the cinnamon-colored wing feathers. The biots make superb March Brown bodies. The brown and white speckled/patterned primaries make a usable substitute for bustard or Amherst pheasant, for the salmon tyers out there.

I would like one or two of the blue feathers for the hat band of my gray Stetson.
Practice safe eating. Always use a condiment.
