Went online to Amazon looking for a book and came across John Taylor's, African Rifles and Cartridges.
Cheapest used book was $230-00 and new $399-00 and one bound in leather over two grand.
I assume its out of print now and collectors are willing to pay this sort of money ?
On the fly leaf of mine it says $16-95
Reprint edition of 1977 and around that sort of time when I bought it.

My copy, bought new around 1959, is a Samworth edition, copyright 1948, and has the price, $7.50, on the inside fold of the dust jacket.

Twelve years later I was in Africa, trying to put what I had read to the test. For the most part, I succeeded.

I believe I had a 1977 reprint at one time, but I replaced it with a 1995 reprint from the NRA's Firearms Classics Library.

The binding is superb with ribbon marker, the pages gilt-edged, and the pictures and drawings much sharper than the 1977 reprint.

These copies can still be found for reasonable prices.

That's one of the few books that, if I didn't have it, I would ALMOST consider paying $230 for it. It's just...well, it's just one of those things.

I got my copy from Safari Press a few years ago for not much money. I'm not sure if they still offer it, which would be a pity if they didn't.

A friend loaned me that book, as a physics professor I was really impressed with intuitive understanding of science that the author possessed. I will definitely get a copy.

People get all excited ...and where Africa stuff is concerned, sometimes money isn't a big issue. It's a fantastic book but I would only pay that if it was the last one available. And possibly not then.
