Picked up an 1894 Rem. shooter and it has a Whippet pad on it which I have seen before. It's not on Doc Drew's picture trail.

It has H. S. B. & Co. on it which I believe to be the old Chicago Hdw. retailer Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett, that also had guns made with their name on them.

I was wondering who would have made the pad for them.

Think I found it. Looks to be the same pad in picture trail as the Red Head, also located in Chicago.

OK, found this also. The pad I pictured has the same serial number. So, I guess Whippet was HBS&co own named pad.

Yes, the Whippet is a "trade brand" version of the Red Head pad --

made for Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett. Similarly, the Tru- Sport is another "trade brand" version made for E.K. Tryon in Philadelphia --

And, that Patent No. 105358 is not a Patent Number. It is a Design Number.
