I mave a DM Lefever (7D) I dearly love to hunt with. 1902 mfg, Damascus bbls, no safety, (gold filled) and it even fits me. Problem is last time I closet it and snapped the caps, it woulden't open later. That time I had to take apart the action and reset the hammers. Being a 60 watter I again snapped the hammers on snap caps and here I am again. I know common sense will help me, but I was hoping for a simpler fix for the SXS. Any ideas as to the root cause?

I have a 8E D M Lefever that had some problems when I got it. I have never had it apart, as a was scared of it's complexity.
I would send your gun off to Buck Hamlin and have him go over it. He did a great job on mine. He has more experience with these guns than anyother gunsmiths I have heard of.
Good luck,

Fritz

Bet Buck would be willing to make a 'house call' if you'd fly him over Buck Hamlin Pevely, MO 636/479-4304

Let me add to the chorus - send the gun to Buck Hamlin. Let him fix the problem, clean the action and make it right with the world. Buck is the Lefever guy as I'm sure you know and he's a great guy to deal with.

Buck came up with a forend release button for my Lefever Optimus restoration so he's tops in my book.

Thanks a lot!! I called Buck and he thinks its only a bad snap cap, whereby the firing pins are not being pushed back by the defective spring. I offered to send him the gun for cleaning and he said if I am not using a lot of oil, to leave it alone!! Advice I will take. Thanks for the referal!!
