Would you buy the gun shown below? Approx. what would you pay for it? It is on offer to me right now. I would love any other info on it as well e.g. model no:, date of manufacture etc as well as the right loads to use.

Thanks for your kind help.

Proof date 1964 .Stock work should be no problem , don't think much of the barrel blacking .1&1/4 oz max shot load but personaly would stick to 1&1/16 .A good strip clean and service may not go amiss How little is it being offered for?

Hi Gunman

I don't live in the States so what it is being offered for is not directly comparable. Prices here in Asia are approx 60% of US prices. It is on offer for $833.00

Thanks for the info and advice you have given me.

Looks pretty original to me. I would buy it for $833.

I think it's a M700:

BTW: where in Asia are you? Do you hunt there?

A Model 700 in 12ga for $833 is pretty much a no-brainer. That's well under half what you'd pay for one in the States. Closer to a third of what you'd pay. They're good, solid, workmanlike guns.

Also a lot cheaper than you would pay here in Britain. Prices seem to be rising for this model here. I have a 28" Model 700 also. Good reliable workhorse guns. Mainly machine made but hand finished and fitted. Lagopus.....

BUY IT! The model 700 is just about the best workhorse gun you'll ever find. Not fancy but honest. And they've got very good metal in them. Freshen the stock with some Lin-speed oil. You'll be amazed how nice it'll look.

Thanks to all for the advice, info and recommendation to buy the gun.

The clincher for me was not so much the price which I knew was on the lower side but the fact that it comes with 2 3/4 inch chambers. It will allow me to shoot the full 70mm length shells with appropriate loads in it. I am often not in a position to buy short shells for my short chambered Brit guns due to lack of availability.

My hesitation was precisely for the reason that all of you have mentioned. The Webley & Scott guns are definitely workhorses and to my eye lack panache and elan! I know that W&S supplied a lot of barreled actions that other makers then finished of into guns with their name on them. However in doing that they somehow managed to put in the extra ingredients required to make them a joy to own and use.

Its bought and I know I will have no regrets.

Thanks again

All the best
