I have inherited a shotgun from my father. It was old when he got it for free from a friend back in the early 60's.

I have always been told it is a Brno, but all the marks on it are Belgian.

Is there anyone who can tell me something about it?
Year, maker, etc??

Is this a gun I can use with modern ammunition, or should I not use it at all?

Is it worth keeping, or should I try to sell it?

Here in Norway we have strict rules on the number of weapons we can have (maximum 6 guns for hunting), and with this shotgun I am on my limit. Maybe I can change the status of it to collectible, but is it worth keeping?

Your are correct it was proofed in Liege. It looks like a decent working shotgun and with the PV and 16-70 markings it could be used with modern ammunition. This type of plain shotgun is often referred to as a "guild gun" in the absence of makers or retailers names. If you have a use for it, use it. Good Luck

The gun was proofed in Liege in 1927. The controller of proof was Théodore Degobert. It is 16ga with 70mm chambers. The barrels weighed 1,208 kg at time of proof.

Have the gun checked by a gunsmith before you fire it. As with any firearm this old, low pressure ammunition is best.

Peter:
Curious how you define this datecode letter. Is orientation considered or not?

http://www.shotguns.se/html/belgium.html

Please see at the bottom of this link

The F was used in 1927 and the F with underline in 1967

My F gun is in cursive and standing up and not a lazy F

Thanks!

Are you sure the datacode letter is an F, and not a cursive u.

I get a bit confused now, whether I should keep it or sell it.
Is it worth anything??

Hello
Maybe a U but a better picture would help

Should you keep it? What use do you have for it?
Hunting? Pleasure? Sport?

I like mine, but I am not currently limited in the number
of guns I can own.

Value? From $400 to $600 US depending on who wants to say and
if they are having a good day or not smile

I sure do like mine and it has a 65mm chamber, Yours with the
70mm chamber is wonderfully versatile.

After all that, You did inherit it from your Father, might be good to keep!!

To help us more, what are the other 5 hunting guns? All rifles? All shotguns?
One of my favorites is a Kreighoff Drilling of 16 x 16 x 8x57R, fun, fun.

The other guns I have are:
1970 Beretta FS-1 shotgun, 12gauge
1988 Brno 600 rifle, 30-06
1994 Weatherby Vanguard stainless and synthetic,30-06
1998 Winchester 94 Trapper Compact, 357 magnum
Norinco ATD-22 , 22LR

What to swap for other guns, and what to keep is a challenge.

Swap and keep? It doesn't look like a challenge to me.
A single shot versus a double... why even think about keeping the single shot. How many 30-06's do you need?
