A board with 3/4" slats every 1 1/2" that has a bottom board on it and a cross piece to hold them in place works well. I place the sharp ends down, as I am using a wood base. It works well and allows you to see what you have as well as allowing air flow to help prevent rust. This can be hung on the wall or a piece added so that it can set on your bench. Mine's about 4' and could be longer but it could be made any length to fit the chisels you have.

I also know a guy that uses magnets inbedded into a board that the chisels stick to. I know that at the woodcarver's store this is how they are displayed. It does magnetize them but it has never been a problem for him.

I cut a board and drilled holes in it for each chisel. I had to make 2 of them slotted for the widest straight chisel and gouge. I then drilled 2 holes in the back of the board and hung it on my peg board just over the bench. I also have holes drilled for 10 palm chisels that I also keep in the board. The holes are 2 deep and staggered where one is not right in front of the toher row.

I have had that setup with the same board for over 10 years. Have cut the top of my hand when reaching under them a couple of times, but them I am accident prone by nature anyway.

I bought the complete set that Brownells used to carry and have been very satisfied with them

but I paid significantly more than $1 per chisel when I bought them! ARe there any more at that price? Where did you find them? I would buy some more at that price and regrind some and reforge others. I really like th eHenkles chisels

And when I said I drilled 2 holes in the "back" of the board, I really should have said "edge" for clarity. Ture, the 2 pegs are in the back of the board the way it is situated and I have looked at it for over a decade, but if I were just looking at the board on my bench I would say it is the edge. THe board was a pine 5/4 RED board, and I kept the radius edge pointing out towards me

Henkels US operation is near my house and every year they clean out the warehouse around Thanksgiving. I bought about a dozen assorted chisels about 10 years ago for $1 each. I hadn't seen antmore until last year when they were $3-6 each. Bought all they had.

What weight of rawhide mallet do you recommend for these type chisels, 4oz., 8oz.?

Thanks, Rob
