Hi Everybody!
According to a notation in the 1894 factory records, my Greener Emperor was built with a 'German Stock'. Can anyone give me an idea as to the meaning of the term. At present, the stock has a straight grip and a horn buttplate. Thank you!

No mention of this in the" Gun and its Development " although there is reference to horn guards as being German. Any sign that it had a cheek peice originaly ? as I have heard of these and also guns with swamped stocks refered to as contintal,Belgian,Tirol stocks so German could be yet another misnoma .

I cannot detect any traces of a cheekpiece. The stock has a very old repaired crack on the left side of the wrist. I assumed it happened when the stock was bent to give it a bit of cast-off, but there is nothing in the records about Greener doing it. The wood is slightly undersized, but the checkering is intact and the buttplate fits nicely. It makes me think that a lot of work was done on the stock, but that it was also done properly as an alternative to restocking. I sent a bunch of photos to Mr. Greener, as the gun has raised a few questions. It should be interesting! Cheers!

Hello,

German Stock Normally means with pistol grip, straight back and cheek (or not).
It's in contrast to the straight english stock.
Greetings from Germany,
Gunwolf
