I recently purchased a Russell Hiilsdon "Royal Counties" 12g and am trying to find more information about the company and the different model shotguns that were marketed under their name. How would they best be described as a retailer? We're they mid-level stores similar to a Dick's Sporting Goods or a higher end retailer more along the lines of an Orvis? Is there any documentation such as catalogs or product flyers that describe their shotguns?
From what I have learned so far it seems the guns were made by Webley & Scott up until 1947 and then switched over to S. Wright and Sons. Mine has a 1937 date making it a W&S gun.I've found several photographs of examples online that seem to have different features, would Hillsdon have ordered variations that differ from what is shown in the Webley catalog?
I appreciate any information I can get. Now for the obligatory photo...
