I have seen Ithaca side X side chokes marked 0, 2 and 4. I have never seen 1 or a 3. Have any of you? Was the 1 or 3 over stamped from a 2 or a 4? Or was the 1 or 3 the original number stamped in the barrel? A pix would be nice. Thanking you for replies.

1 is IC, 3 (not often seen) is IM. Original numbers. I am sure you can guess the 0, 2, 4 if you don't already know them.

Thanking you Walter for your reply. Yes I know what numbers mean and I question if any one has seen 1 and 3 stamps. I have not. Let us say some one ordered Ithaca that was made for stock 2 and 4 and he wanted 4 opened up to 3. Would Ithaca had over stamped the 4 with a 3? Or just let the 4 stand with no additional marking done when choke was opened up.?

In that case an over stamp may have been used. Have not seen one but I have learned to never say never. Chokes 0 and 4 for example were very common in the Flues days. I have seen 1 and 2 on NIDs as well as 1 and 4. Of course 2/4 are very common. Only have seen the 3 once. They used the same choke numbers into the M-37 days. I have a chart that I should probably post that has all the dimensions for all gauges for chokes. It is in my M-37 book.

I recently traded for an NID 16ga with two sets of 28 inch barrels. One set is marked 1 & 2 and the other is 2 & 4.
