SxS-Gerry,

I assume the 20 of 20/70 indicates 20 gauge. I wonder why my 16 gauge is marked 12/70?

SeaHorse,

Yes, Continental European caliber designations are normally by Gauge followed by the cartridge length in millimeters. A European marked .12/70 is the US designation for .12 Gauge 2 3/4".

Most commonly seen today are the Gauges .12, .20, etc. followed by either 65mm (2 1/2"), 67mm (2 5/8"), 70mm (2 3/4") and 76mm (3").

Why yours is marked differntly I cannot comment on but my 16 guage is chambered and marked 16/67 a 16 Gauge 2 5/8" cartridge.

SxS-Gerry,

Thanks for the translation. As to the choke it is marked Full choke and half choke. I find it interesting that it is marked in english. Was this standard practice on all German guns or was it only on guns intended for export?

It appears to have intercepting sears, a nice feature.

DaveB,

I cannot say for sure BUT; I currently seldom see shotguns for sale without typical European (millimeter) Chamber & Choke markings (I don't care how old they are) it would most likely be for Export.

As the shotgun can be dated & proofed according to the markings on the shotgun (Manfacturer's Date); I would suggest that it was purposely made & intended for sale to an Export (US) Market.
