Anybody tried loading original black powder cartridges with Trail Boss.
From the little I have read on the internet it would appear to be ok to load up to the base of the bullet with this powder and use in black powder rifles.
regards, Roly.

Hodgdon "Basic Reloading Manual" has loads for .38-40, .44-40, .2-40, l38-55, l40-65, .45-70, .45-120, and .50-140. I got my manual free at my gunshop; Hodgdons would probably send you one free.

Their .44-40 and .25-35 (yeah, I know it never was black powder) Trail Boss loads interest me. Haven't tried it yet; not easy to find Trail Boss around here. I was lucky to score a can of 'Lil Gun recently.

I have used trail boss in my martini. .577/.450. Filled the case to the bottom of the bullet. Used barnes .458 300 gr. Patched with teflon pipe joint tape. Shoots great. I have yet to crono.
Trail boss does not give the same velocity as black. In themartini I think I will make up for it. Because the original load did not fill the case. I like the stuff
Had to develop a no lead load. My goal is to kill a pig here in Ca condor country. I figure the smaller bullet with the patch will not be to hard on the barrel.
What does anyone think about this. I am interested in comments
Jerry
