I recently acquired a Beretta GR-4 SXS. The gun is 99% but has had some work done on it, I am assuming by Briley. I am assuming the prior owner was a pretty dedicated upland bird hunter due to the fact that they spent a fair sum to have the modifications done. The barrels were shortened from 28" to 26.5", Briley thin wall choke tubes rated for steel (these are the better ones, VX I think). It came with 5 tubes (from skeet to full...

I am trying to figure out what the value is of these guns and this one with the modifications.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks,
WBLDon

The one on GunAuction looks like my GR3 in the pics, except for the engine turning. The one Pendelton is selling has been available for quite a while. He refers to it as a GR4/426E, but my 426E is coin finished. Similar, but not identical. Just guessing that the shortened barrels on the OP's gun reduced the value just enough to partially compensate for the Brileys. I'd say $800 if excellent condition and 12 gauge. Higher if a 20 gauge.

That sounds like a pretty good range to me. I had a GR4 until a friend wanted it. I kept my BL4. I think they are unappreciated guns.

Holy Cow, they are all over the place price wise. OK now I know $900 they don't sell, $1,200 they do and at $2,000 your a dreamer. What is interesting is when I did a search in Gunbroker for a GR-4 nothing came up. Gonna have to start watching Gunauction as well I guess. And yes it looks like these with blued action and barrels, fairly straight grain walnut wood, beavertail forend and some engraving.

Do the modifications (shortened barrel and briley thin wall choke tubes) detract from the price much?

I like the way the gun handles and plan on doing a little grouse hunting this year after being away from it for 20+ years.

Thanks,
Don

The shortened barrels tend to kill resale value, but the Brileys make it a very useful shooter. These are very well made guns and yours will give you lots of satisfaction in the field. If you want to sell it later, it will have value to a limited number of hunters.

The right example will bring well in excess of 2k. nib 30" comes to mind.

The best hunting is between now and dark.
