Today I found the other shotgun from the "matched pair" that the owner broke up 25 years ago.

My father was in Dan Bailey's fly shop in Montana some 20+ years ago and saw a shotgun he liked. Long story . . . but he bought No. 2 of a pair of Lebeau-Courally 16 gauge guns.

I called today and talked with John Bailey, who sold the gun to my father. He still has the other gun! Said it's his favorite, and that he has no plan to sell it.

He also said the man he got the pair from lived in Belgium, and he used "my" gun for ducks, shooting tens of thousands of ducks with it to protect the crops. The one I have is choked mod and full and weighs about 6 1/4 pounds. The one John has is more open and weighs 5-14.

I was hoping to reunite the pair, but that's not going to happen at this time. Still, it was good to discover where the mate is, and that it's still hunting.

Did Matched Pairs(the English firm) service put you on to this gun back at the flyshop?
Don't they do the job of reuniting the lost #1 gun?

Lowell, I thought they supplied a little stick on magnet with the twin's number embossed in gold. "Pardon me while I toddle off to my capacious gunroom to fetch its mate. May as well put this un back while I'm at it."

Matched Pairs hasn't dealt in any but Brit guns per a discussion with them some couple of years ago. Far as I know, there is no equivalent site for Continental guns.

Nah. I knew where my father bought the gun, and I called there thinking that it might be a low-percentage chance of starting the journey to track down the other double. The owner still has the gun, and remembers selling No. 2 to Dad.

It was a short journey.
