Did Parker Bros. use two types of stock finish? A shellac base finish on most guns and also a oil base finish on special order? Thanks for help on this, I am not a Parker collector but have two.

Shellac was used on the lower grade guns and oil finishes would be seen on higher grades. This is true for many other American makers.

I have seen shellac on "A" Parkers and Monogram LCS, in MY opinion oil was always an option and never the standard on American guns.

Bill, I have to disagree with you on the oil finish as never being standard on American guns. On higher grade L.C. Smiths they used a special blend of oil and other ingredients and used as many coats as it took to bring the finish out.
I have never heard of a Monogram having a shellac finish.
