What is the name of the replacement for the barrel loop ?
I am asking for both the American and the English versions. I do not know if there are two versions but I think it likely. Thank you

Please describe what function this "barrel loop" serves. I know of the forend loop soldered to the barrels, but...

If you are referring to the protrusion from the bottom of the barrel that holds the forend in place, by way of a spring loaded mechanism, it is called the barrel lug. I can't recall any other name for it. It replaced the barrel loop, through which the wedge passed, and which held the forend in place on very early guns, even muzzleloaders.
Not sure if the English use that term or something else.

The English call it a loop no matter what type or shape . No point in making up words when there is one in use that every one uses. The British trade uses a number of archaic terms such as tail pipe to refer to a metal forend tip ,hammers as well as tumblers in boxlocks ,older engravers talked of "back ends " instead of trigger guard tangs ,pins and nails as in breech pin ,hand pin or side nail , rather than screws . there are others but even some of these are now going out of common use .

Forend Lug,,is a common US terminology. I sometimes hear it called the Forend Hook.
'The Forend Lug on the bbl' will get you there w/most everyone.
Factory parts diagrams from different mfg'rs have differing names for the same part.

Forend loop works too I think. Only possible confusion there would be with the forend iron.
