I spent a very enjoyable weekend shooting at Orvis Sandanona in Millbrook NY Memorial Day weekend.

Was very excited to learn that there will be a Side by Side shoot dubbed the "America's Clays Cup SxS event" added to the annual Orvis Game Fair on September 20th.

Those who've attended know this is a really great event and is one of the fasted growing shooting / country sports events in the country with almost 2000 daily attendees last year. No gate fee and most of the non-shooting activities and demonstrations are free.

This year's event already looks great, and the addition of a formal side by side shoot is nice plus.

Also, the Orvis Game Fair will be the weekend before the Vintage Cup, which will also be held at the nearby Dover Furnace Club just outside Millbrook, NY for people who want to make a week's vacation of it.

Daryl, thanks for being our mentor for the Millbrook Orvis events. I will remind potential attendees that Safari Outfitters and British Sporting Arms are within minutes of the Sandanona Orvis facility. At the Southern, I talked to Kim from Safari Outfitters and reminded her that we had enjoyed the breakfasts she served to Vintagers attendees who stayed west of the Parkway and passed her and Niles' shop on the way to the shoot every morning. Weather was really nice. Again, the crowds were really big again this year. Lots of gun and non gun vendors. Some really fun free stuff like the Land Rover off road course, Culinary institute game cooking lessons, Raptor displays etc. Also, lots of food, wine and spirits vendors, many offering samples of their wares.

Lots of good gun vendors: Steve Barnett, William Larkin Moore, Kirby Hoyt, Gary Herman, Jay Schacter, Robin Hollow, Galazans, William Asprey and many others.

The new SXS shoot was fun with over 60 entrants. The main Orvis Cup shoot drew about 130 shooters.

The Orvis staff deserve credit for running a first rate event, and especially for attracting hundreds of new people, particularly families and kids. Was very nice to see.
