Here is the place to feel free to tell us what you know, what you don't know, what I don't know, what you know you don't know, what you might want to know, what you don't want to know, who you know, even tell me where to go but leave it off the DoubleGuns For Sale, you know.

I do know that commenting in DoubleGuns For Sale Forum screws things up for the seller, I don't know how long it will continue to be allowed. I do know all communication in that forum should be via PM, but what do I know?

Disagree, Wild Skies. If someone spots something that's not clear or "irregular" in the post, why not try to get it cleared up for everyone's benefit--which, it seems to me, is a service for both the seller and any potential buyers. If I leave something off a gun I post for sale, or if there's something that needs clarification, I'd appreciate it if someone would post their comment or question in response to my listing.
Discussing rules of proof in General Discussion is certainly a good idea . . . although if and when we do, we might want to narrow things down just a bit. For example: Which country? Which time period? Otherwise, we're like the infamous "warning" President Bush received about the 9/11 Al Qaeda attack: turned out to be quite accurate, but not of much help to anyone without little details, such as where, when, and how they were planning to attack.

There is a very fine line between suggesting changes to "clear up" a description, and spamming the entire post with personal opinions. Unfortunately, it seems the later occurs far too often here.

Send a pm to the seller. Give him a chance to check and correct any listing before posting. If your information is correct a good seller will post the corrections/clarification. If he ignores your pm then you can always post later. I have seen too many for sale listing degenerate into pissing contest with more opinions than facts posted as gospel. If you do not have the gun in hand it is very hard to be sure and correct in every case.

I would agree with KY... it would be the classier, more gentlemanly way, to do it in private... I believe the Boss here puts that in writing in the intro to the for sale section. But if the OP'er who's posting the original For Sale , or Want to Buy ad is being a real dick about something after some private contact, I'd feel its fine if thats brought up, ..just to warn others who might be interested...looking out for each other,etc... But if we go by the Rules as posted by Dave, it's a no no, though some have not abided them. franc

Not exactly, Franc. There are only two rules relative to the For Sale forum: 1. No option to add posts. (I'm not quite sure what that means, because almost every listing has additional posts.) 2. No negotiations. Asking questions, clarifying information, etc isn't negotiating. If you're negotiating price with the seller, that should be done by PM. But we can all learn, share knowledge etc on the For Sale forum just as we can here. And IMO, it's a particularly good place to do that, because the posts typically include a pretty detailed description of the gun in question, often with photos.

It proves the obvious . . . that those that add posts cannot contain themselves by abiding by two simple rules. But in a 99.99% un-moderated forum that's not too surprising, now is it?

I expect it would be simple enough for Dave to lock topics that appear in the for sale forum, if that's the way he really wants to run it. That way, any correspondence with the original poster would have to be off line. But since everyone seems to follow the "no negotiations" rule pretty well, could be that Dave sees the exchanges that take place as being mostly of an informational nature, and maybe even adding value to the BB as a whole.
